Setting Up Your Link Exchange Campaign
Today I'm going to provide instructions for setting up a link exchange campaign for your website. This is optional and takes some knowledge of HTML and uploading websites.
Link popularity is critical for getting search engine rankings.
Before you begin, I highly recommend that you read my recent article on Link Popularity at: http://www.work-at-home-business.com/article-18-internet-marketing.shtml. Please read this carefully so you have a good understanding about why it is important to incorporate a link exchange campaign into your WOW.
Follow these steps to setup your link exchange campaign:
1) Get a Free HTML Editor: Your site already has a link directory page: YOURDOMAIN/directory.shtml. This is the webpage where you will add link exchange partners. To edit this page, you will need to use a simple HTML editor. You can download one for free at: http://tucows.mundofree.com/htmledit95.html.
2) Download a Free FTP Uploader: To upload and download webpage files, you'll need to use an FTP program. Download a free one at http://www.corbanware.com/ftpworks.html
3) Download the directory.shtml file: To edit the file, you must first download it to your computer.
- Open FTP Works
- Click CONNECT
- Enter Host Name, User Name and Password (if you don't have these, please email me and I'll provide them immediately)
- Click CONNECT
- Double-click the www directory
- On the left side, locate where on your computer you want to download the file
- Click the directory.shtml file
- Click DOWNLOAD
- Open your HTML Editor
- Locate and open the directory.shtml file
- Make sure you are in Edit mode, not preview mode in your HTML editor
- The directory.shtml already has links from other WOW sites. To add an additional link, simply copy the HTML code for a current link and edit with the new link information (text, URL, and description). This code will be between the following statements: Start Link and End Link.
5) Upload Your Edited directory.shtml file: Open FTP Works again, find the file on your computer and click UPLOAD. Make sure you are in the www directory.
IMPORTANT: Do not request links or add links to any website that is not related to "Home Based Businesses" or "Income Opportunities". The idea behind link popularity is that your links are relevant to the subject of your website.
These 5 steps are instructions for adding links and maintaining your partner/directory web page. Refer to the article above for guidance on where and how to find relevant link partners.
